Scream king Matthew Lillard, Prey breakout Amber Midthunder and Cooper Koch (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story) are set to star in Rot, an upcoming psychological thriller meets body horror from Alexandra Magistro, an exec at Mike Flanagan‘s Red Room Pictures.
Flanagan (whose Carrie series creeps ever closer) will executive produce Magistro's feature debut, which is based on a 2024 Black List script by Geo Bradley.
Per Deadline, Rot is described by Bradley as “Repulsion by way of Cronenberg.” An official logline wasn’t given, but we're already sold on that alone.
Deadline details that, per the Black List, the story follows an antisocial man suffering from obsessive compulsions who is haunted by the death of his hoarder mother. The man takes on work as a trauma cleaner in hopes of facing his past, but the job soon begins to infest and unravel his mental state.
Production is slated to begin in Vancouver in November, with Molly C. Quinn, Matthew M. Welty and Elan Gale of QWGmire producing alongside Flanagan, who produces under his Red Room Banner.
Deadline reminds that in addition to Carrie and the new Exorcist film, Red Room Pictures’ upcoming slate includes an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist which Flanagan will also helm.
With a cast and crew as strong as this, we're hyped for Rot before we really know anything about it. Stay tuned for more as we get it.
