The final trailer for DC's Clayface has dropped ahead of the superhero horror's October 23 release date. Get a load of the face-melting action below:
Written by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, the upcoming Carrie series) and Hossein Amini (Drive) and directed by Eden Lake‘s James Watkins, Clayface stars Tom Rhys Harries (The Gentlemen) in the titular role, as well as Max Minghella (Spiral: From the Book of Saw) and Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice).
Produced by The Batman' s Matt Reeves, as well as DC Studios bosses Gunn and Peter Safran, and Lynn Harris, Clayface is based on the shapeshifting supervillain of the same name introduced back in Detective Comics #40 back in 1940.
The story centers on an actor, Matt Hagen, who injects himself with a substance to remain relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay.
An official synopsis reads:
Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.
Previously, DC CEO James Gunn described the R-rated Clayface as a “complete horror film”, and we don't doubt him for a moment. This is the man that made Slither, after all.
