The sequel to Takashi Yamazaki's Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One picks up in 1949, two years after the tumultuous events of the previous film, once again focusing on the Shikishima family as they face an all-new kaiju threat. Ryunosuke Kamiki returns as Koichi Shikishima, and Minami Hamabe is back as Noriko Oishi. Today's new teaser also confirms that Big G won't be the only kaiju wreaking destruction this time around.

Yamazaki returns to write and direct after securing a bigger budget for Godzilla Minus Zero – a no-brainer, given that Minus One generated a stomping $116 million at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese Godzilla movie since the kaiju king crashed his way onto screens back in 1954. As well as taking home the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, Godzilla Minus One also won the Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in a Screenplay, and the FANGORIA Chainsaw Award for Best Score and Best Wide Release in 2024

Godzilla Minus Zero is just one of several projects related to Godzilla we have coming down the pipeline over the next several years. Biggest of all is the latest entry in the MonsterVerse, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which is in production now for a March 2027 release. Plot details largely remain under wraps but it serves as a sequel to 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Apple TV also has a Monarch: Legacy of Monstersspin-off series in the works centered on Wyatt Russell’s Lee Shaw.
