Free Horror Movies Streaming This Month

What is next in store for the free horror movies streaming this month? With only one month until Halloween, Tubi has increased the sheer number of titles available, from 15 to 57. Pluto TV has brought in new franchise offerings and some classics of the genre. Quality and quantity are on tap for the month of September as you get ready for horror fans' favorite time of the year.

Pluto TV, which is the 24-hour streaming service that has channels that constantly play movies and TV shows, doesn't require you to start an account, but you can if you want to keep track of what you're watching. This comes in handy in case you get interrupted by life, as the vampires are attacking the roadhouse or the zombie apocalypse is imminent. If you've got to hit pause, no sweat; you can come right back to where you were later, once the monsters are vanquished.

Aside from having dedicated channels like Horror, Terror, The Walking Dead Universe, X-Files, and The Twilight Zone, you can also pick your scary fave on demand. Among the titles of note are John Carpenter's The Fog,  Osgood Perkins' The Blackcoat’s Daughter, all three movies from the From Dusk Till Dawn series, Karen Kusama's Jennifer's Body, the ‘ 70s chiller Let's Scare Jessica to Death, the Urban Legend movies, and Jonathan Glazer's eerie Under the Skin.

Tubi has stayed consistent with a similar number of movies for September; they didn't forget about fright film fans in August and have some certified bangers on the list, including Adam Wingard's You're Next, which is great since Wingard's return to slashers, Onslaught, is being released on September 4. By the way, it's well worth the ticket price, and this would be a great time to revisit You're Next or watch it for the first time.  The only thing on the wish list that didn't happen was that one of the streamers might program The Guest, so fans could get the chance to stream the entire “spiritual trilogy.”

Director Breck Eisner's brutal remake of The Crazies is also a notable addition to the September titles, not just because it is merciless and gruesome, but because it hits so much harder after the pandemic. The Descent and its sequel, The Descent Part 2, are also available for a nice gut-ripping double feature.

You can also catch filmmaker Robert Eggers' debut feature film, The Witch; Luca Guadagnino's underrated cannibal road trip love story with one of the genre's most terrifying villains, Bones and All; and the scariest movie about a beautiful and homicidal red dress, Peter Strickland's In Fabric.
