The upcoming third season of Wednesday has added another frequent Tim Burton collaborator, with scream queen Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Stranger Things) joining the Nevermore Academy alongside her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-star Jenna Ortega.
Per Deadline, Ryder, whose character name will be revealed shortly, will appear in multiple episodes as a guest star in Netflix and Burton's hit show based on the adventures of the titular moody Addams Family teen.
Ryder joins previously announced Wednesday season 3 addition (also a frequent Burton collaborator) Eva Green, who'll be playing a long-lost member of the clan: Morticia’s estranged and long lost sister Ophelia Frump. Returning for the upcoming season also are Emma Myers, Billie Piper, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley, and Fred Armisen. Burton teased the new cast in action over on Instagram with the following video:
Wednesday creators/showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar had the following to say in a new statement about Ryder's addition to the third season:
“When it comes to Outcasts, Winona Ryder is the GOAT […] Her legendary partnership with Tim Burton has defined some of cinema’s most unforgettable characters. We loved collaborating with her on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her to Nevermore.”
Director/exec producer Burton, who has worked with Ryder on Edward Scissorhands and Frankenweenie aside from the aforementioned ‘Juice films, adds:
“I am so happy that Winona has joined us, she fits right into this world […] And she’s a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her.”
A third season ofWednesday was a no-brainer for Netflix – the Emmy-nominated show scared up record viewership for the streamer upon release, going viral to generate 252 million views globally, becoming Netflix’s biggest English-language series of all time. Plus, if Wednesday stays true to the lore of the Nevermore Academy, we could be looking at six seasons minimum as the moodiest member of the Addams clan makes her way through years of attending the eerie institute.
