With Stranger Things finally over, it looks like David Harbour isnโt moving away from horror just yet. Deadline reports that the Thunderbolts* star has joined A Head Full of Ghosts, a new horror film from the directors of Goodnight Mommy and The Lodge, alongside horror maven Rebecca Hall and Esmรฉ Creed-Miles.ย
Lionsgate had already acquired global distribution rights to the psychological horror film from Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, which is set to begin in March with the two serving both as co-writers and directors. Based on the novel of the same name by Paul Tremblay, the filmโs synopsis reads as follows:ย
The Barrettsโ suburban life is torn apart when their teenage daughterโs descent into madness becomes the subject of a reality show. Fifteen years later, her sister Merry faces her familyโs haunting past with a journalist, uncovering the very nature of the evil that destroyed them.
โWeโre thrilled to partner with Team Downey, The Allegiance Theater, and David Gambino, and our friends at Fifth Season, who collectively bring exceptional prestige and creative confidence to the project,โ says Lionsgateโs Adam Fogelson. โThis teamโs artistic vision for this terrifying story has been undeniable โ striking, distinct and genuinely unsettling. Itโs no surprise that Stephen King called this book his favorite novel of the past decade and said that it โscared the living hellโ out of him โ which says it all.โ
A Head Full of Ghosts will be produced by Daniel Dubiecki and Lara Alameddine for The Allegiance Theater, Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey for their banner Team Downey, and David Gambino. The film will be Franz and Fialaโs fifth film together, after a slate that includes Goodnight Mommy, which went on to become Austriaโs 2014 entry for Best Foreign Language film at the Oscar, as well as The Lodge, featuring Riley Keogh, and The Devilโs Bath.
No release date has been set for A Head Full of Ghosts. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.ย
