With It Ends hitting theaters this week, director Alex Ullom is already well on his way to his next film. Deadline revealed the primary cast for the filmmaker’s second film, 4 x 4: The Event, which recently wrapped principal filming and will once again partner him with NEON.
Eight young actors will star in The Event, including Sophia Lillis, Dylan Minnette, Quintessa Swindell, Maddie Phillips, Marcel Ruiz, Mitchell Cole, Jaden Smith, and Jacob Tremblay. Per Deadline, the film “follows eight contestants as they enter an illegal sensory-assault livestream where they must kill or be killed using only what they can order online.” Character details are currently being kept under wraps, though the film reunites Cole with Ullom after starring in It Ends.
4 x 4: The Event is produced by Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath, Chris Ferguson, Haley Johnson, Evan Barber, and director Osgood Perkins. Executive producers include Ben Ross, Jakob Pollack, Rami Yasin, Jesse Savath, and Marlaina Mah.
Ullom’s debut feature It Ends earned massive praise when it premiered at last year’s SXSW Festival, before being picked up by NEON for release. Starring Phinehas Yoon, Akira Jackson, Noah Toth, and Cole, we have yet to see how it’ll do with a wider audience, though it played as AMC Theatres’ Scream Unseen pick this week where it was fairly well-received, so the odds are good.
