A sequel to the 2013 Brad Pitt-starring zombie action-horror World War Z is officially in the works, per fresh news from Paramount Pictures' panel at CinemaCon.
Inspired by Max Brooks' 2006 novel of the same name, the Marc Forster-directed World War Z starred Pitt as Gerry Lane, a former United Nations investigator who travels the world, from South Korea to Wales, seeking a solution for a sudden zombie apocalypse.
Reviews upon release were generally favorable, and the pic was a massive success at the box office, taking in $540 million worldwide off a reported budget of $190 million and currently standing as the highest-grossing zombie movie of all time.
While initially conceived as a trilogy, a World War Z sequel never got off the ground, despite at one point having both J. A. Bayona (The Orphanage) and David Fincher (Se7en, Zodiac) attached to direct.
Back in August 2025, a World War Z sequel was called “top priority” by CEO of Paramount Skydance Corporation David Ellison and co-film chief Josh Greenstein, and it looks like Paramount is wasting no time making good on that promise.
No news yet on whether Pitt or his Plan B Entertainment will be involved with the World War Z sequel, nor updates on director or writer just yet. Watch this space for updates on this developing story, and for more out of CinemaCon, here's all the horror movie news that's been announced so far.
