What’s up, Losers? It’s another week so that means we have another episode of IT: Welcome to Derry up for discussion.
Hot on the heels of last week’s first peek at everybody’s favorite dancing clown comes an episode… well, without any Pennywise at all, really. But we do get a super gnarly freak out that will burrow under the skin of most viewers, especially if they have trouble with depictions of eye trauma.
As usual, my Kingcast co-host, Anthony Breznican, and I are there to talk through the episode moment by moment, plot point by plot point, to break down what we like, what we don’t like, and everything in-between.
This episode, confusingly titled The Great Swirling Apparatus of Our Planet’s Function, is a bit of a downshift from the action packed episode 3, granted, but what it lacks in giant set pieces it makes up for in big reveals, most notably delving into It’s arrival and its first real run-ins with human beings, the indigenous inhabitants of the land that knew to leave well enough alone. Spoiler alert: white people kinda fucked that up for all of us.
While Bill Skarsgard doesn’t turn up this episode, we do get a healthy look at It’s origin, thanks in no small part to Dick Hallorann putting his special psychic talent to some questionable use. We also see poor Lily not making the best case for her sanity to her fellow students, and The Black Spot being established.
You have a couple of options to tune into Watching IT: Welcome to Derry and hear me and Brez breaking all this down. Check out the show on YouTube and see our pretty little faces below:
Or go the traditional podcast route and listen with your earholes.
As usual, big thanks to Watching It: Welcome to Derry’s sponsor Black Magic Design, the creators of the equipment actually used to make some of your favorite recent genre, like Final Destination Bloodlines, Longlegs, and even Andy Muschietti’s IT films.
Enjoy this week’s show and we’ll see y’all next week!
