What’s up, Losers? Eric Vespe here to fill you in on the goodies in this week’s episode of Watching IT: Welcome to Derry and this is an odd episode filled with a lot of intriguing expansion of lore and character growth and some of the jankiest moments of the series so far.
Episode 3’s title, Now You See It, is made literal in a few different ways this episode. We the audience get our first glimpse at It’s favorite form, Pennywise, this episode and so do a few of our beloved characters. This isn’t full on Bill Skarsgard chewing up scenery yet, but we do psychically delve into It’s lair, hear It question a particularly befuddled future haunted hotel chef, and catch a glimpse of the clown in the finale.
Matter of fact, the episode is bookmarked by glimpses of the familiar clown design as the opening flashback establishes just where It might have lifted its most popular look.
You get director cameos, some explanation of why the Air Force is looking for this potential weapon in the woods of rural Maine, hints at the agents of the White that are working to counter the evil of It, and some of the worst effects of the series as things get a little Goosebumps for the episode’s finale.
