Very Young Frankenstein, a prequel comedy series based on Mel Brooks' classic 1974 film Young Frankenstein, is officially go as FX orders a pilot from the team behind the What We Do in the Shadows series, including Stefani Robinson as showrunner, Garrett Basch, and Taika Waititi.
Written by Robinson and directed by Waititi, theVery Young Frankenstein pilot for FX and Hulu will star Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), Dolly Wells (Dracula) and Spencer House (Space Force), alongside Nikki Crawford, Kumail Nanjiani and Cary Elwes.
Brooks, who gave the series his blessing, is set to executive produce the project alongside his producing partner Kevin Salter, as well Young Frankenstein producer Michael Gruskoff.
Starring Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman, Brooks' Young Frankenstein, a parody of Universal monster movies of the ’30s and ’40s, saw Wilder play Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, who is embarrassed by his family’s macabre legacy and hopes to distance himself from it. No plot details for Very Young Frankenstein have been unwrapped just yet, but we can assume that it’ll focus on Frankenstein and his life before he decided to take up his grandfather’s work and build a man from body parts.
