Well over 40 years after director Sam Raimiโs low-budget horror classic The Evil Dead first hit theaters, it in some ways feels like the franchise is just getting started. Last yearโs Evil Dead Rise brought the film side of things roaring black to life with the bloodiest entry in the series in years. It was also a huge financial success, which opened the door for more to follow. With that in mind, longtime face of the franchise and Ash Williams himself Bruce Campbell has confirmed that now one but three different projects are in development as we speak.
Campbell recently spoke with the folks at Comicbook.com while promoting his new Peacock series Hysteria! Naturally, he was asked about the status of the long-awaited Evil Dead animated series, which we first heard about several years back. Hereโs what he had to say about it:
โWeโre just developing it. So we are, but these are slow-motion, molasses processes, so it could be years away. And so are two more movies.โ

So a tiny bit of bad news with a whole lot of good news there. First off, the animated show is still happening. The reason that is great is not only because seeing Evil Dead in animated form would be rad, but because it means Campbell can return as Ash once again. After the cancelation of Ash vs. Evil Dead several years ago, the actor retired from the role, as he said heโs getting too old for what it requires. But his voice? Thatโs still as strong as it ever was.
As for the movies, the first one we heard about hails from director Sรฉbastien Vaniฤek (Infested). Details remain scarce but it has been described as a spin-off that will be โnasty.โ Vaniฤek previously indicated that it could arrive as soon as Halloween 2025 but, given how little weโve heard about it, that seems unlikely. Next up, we learned that Francis Galluppi (Last Stop in Yuma County) is developing a different Evil Dead movie from an original idea he cooked up. Raimi, Campbell and Rob Tapert are to produce both films. Again, plot details remain totally scarce.
So, none of what Campbell is saying right now is new but the good news is that all three of these projects remain in active development. As for which one goes first? He is cautioning that the animated series is coming soon, so that could be further off, which is the only bit of bad news here. The fact that two other movies are now in the works when we went a full decade without any? Thatโs groovy.
None of these Evil Dead projects currently have release dates, but stay tuned. For more, check out the full list of winners from this yearโs Chainsaw Awards.
