Scream king David Dastmalchian remains booked and busy, with Variety reporting today that the Late Night with the Devil star is set to join Barbarian breakout Georgina Campbell in upcoming horror-thriller The Shepherd from Sick director John Hyams.
Written by Alexander Gustaveson, The Shepherd is set in the desolate Nevada night, and follows a young woman in labor fleeing an abusive past who has her escape hijacked by a mysterious stranger hiding an ominous threat in the back of her car.
Behind the scenes, The Shepherd reunites the team from Late Night with the Devil, produced by the Spooky Pictures and Image Nation partnership with Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity, Split) and Roy Lee (It, Barbarian) producing for Spooky Pictures, Ben Cornwell, Jordan Foley and Nick Smith producing for Paperclip Ltd. and along with Jonathan Rosenthal and Sรฉbastien Raybaud producing for Anton. Anton is handling worldwide rights and are launching sales in Cannes later this month.
Dastmalchian executive produces under his Good Fiend Films banner, with Campbell, Ben Ross and Derek Dauchy for Image Nation, Rami Yasin for Spooky Pictures, and Yeardley Smith for Paperclip Ltd.
Dastmalchian, whose upcoming projects include Rosario, Dexter: Resurrection, Murderbot, Kodak SuperXX, Sender and The Cure, as well as an upcoming collaboration with the Boulet Brothers on The Boulet Brothersโ Holiday of Horrors, had this to say of his latest genre casting:
โOnce I turned the first few pages of The Shepherd I was hooked […] I immediately wanted to see this high-octane, horrifying world brought to life and John is the perfect person to make it happen. After collaborating with Roy and Steven on Late Night with the Devil, I have been looking forward to getting back in the sandbox with them and I canโt wait to bring the genre force of Good Fiend Films into the equation.โ
As big fans of Mr. Dastmalchian here at Fango, we'll definitely be following The Shepherd with great interest. Keep your eyes peeled for updates.
