Emmy nominee Sonja O’Hara is giving the beauty industry a taste of its own medicine. Deadline reports that she’s set to co-star in The Scorpion, a new horror film from writer-director Zachary Allard all about what happens when cosmetics testing goes wrong

O’Hara will star in the film alongside Sebiye Behtiyar, which serves as Allard’s feature directorial debut and begins production in Los Angeles later this year. The film’s synopsis is as follows:

“The Scorpion follows Kit, a struggling young woman whose dream of launching her own clothing line has stalled. Desperate for money, she accepts a mysterious job at a cutting-edge cosmetics lab that claims to have eliminated animal testing in favor of willing human participants. As Kit becomes increasingly entangled in the lab’s bizarre experiments — involving perfumes, chemicals, and invasive procedures — her life begins to improve, even as disturbing physical and psychological changes begin to surface.”

O’Hara stars as Kit, while Behtiyar co-leads as Lizzie, a “winsome new recruit at the experimental cosmetics clinic who forms a deep bond with another test subject as the women endure increasingly disturbing physical and psychological transformations.”

The Scorpion is produced by Raechel Zarzynski, Kathy Sue Holtorf, Garrett Recker, Greg Elam, and Corey Moosa. The film is the latest in a string of horror films for O’Hara, who starred in projects like Mid-Century and The Victorville Massacre, and is currently in post-production on Snare, which she co-directs with Adam Hoelzel and stars Greg Tarzan Davis, Marissa Bode, and Omar Sharif Jr.
