The jungle is no place to go alone, and even with comrades, it can still be deadly. Well Go USA and Latido Films’ released the first trailer for The Awakening, a new supernatural horror film arriving this fall, pitting elite soldiers against something even they aren’t equipped to handle.
The Awakening was written and directed by Jaime Osorio Marquez, who passed away before the film was finished, with Federico Durán and José Luis Rugeles completing it. The film stars Claudio Cataño, Alejandro Buitrago, Héctor Sánchez, Andrea Olaya, Quique Sanmartín, Jaisson Jeack, Carlos Mariño, Andres Londono, Salvador Bridges, and Ricardo Leguizamo. Its synopsis is as follows:
An elite military unit ventures into a Colombian jungle on a mission to eliminate an enemy target. What begins as a tactical operation quickly descends into a frenzied nightmare when a primeval force awakens in the darkness. Five hundred years earlier, a Spanish conquistador expedition was consumed by the same relentless curse. Separated by centuries but connected by the same hostile territory, both groups fight to survive the jungle’s curse.

“With The Awakening, we recover the magic of a magnificent filmmaker like Jaime Osorio, for us the best creator of magic realism horror in Latin America,” said Latido’s Antonio Saura. “This film, curated by some of the best directors in Colombia – his friends responsible for his legacy – is a great example of his vision for action, horror, fun and amazing directing. We are proud to be part of this film and this adventure.”
“The Awakening is a gripping and deeply moving journey into the heart of darkness,” said Durán, who also produces the film. “Not only for the story that unfolds on screen, but also for the story behind it: that of a director who passed away before seeing it completed and the remarkable effort to preserve and restore his vision and his work.”
The Awakening arrives on digital on November 10, before getting a Blu-ray and DVD release on December 15.
