Updates on Terrifier 4 have been relatively few and far between. But writer/director Damien Leone has finally shared a meaningful update when it comes to Art the Clown’s next (and possibly last) blood-soaked reign of terror. He’s taken on Halloween. He’s even taken on Christmas. Next? He’s going to do his thing on New Year’s Eve. Get ready to ring in the new year, slasher style.
Taking to Instagram, Leon shared a text-based image with the words “Terrifier 4 will take place around New Year’s Eve.” So there we have it. He says around, implying that it might take place over a several-day period, but this is a meaningful development. “No space. No Easter bunny. Art’s bringing in the New Year!” Leone said in the caption he provided with the image.

The director previously ruled out taking Art the Clown to space, as he evidently doesn’t want to jump the shark. As appealing as seeing Art crossing paths with the Easter Bunny might be, that’s not happening. At least not right now. But the notion of David Howard Thornton’s killer clown crashing some New Year’s Eve parties is appealing in its own right. The possibilities for bloodshed are ample.
The Terrifier franchise has had a fascinating trajectory. Art the Clown started within the low-budget anthology All Hallow’s Eve before getting a solo movie in 2016. Years later, Terrifier 2 became an unexpected success story. The Christmas-set Terrifier 3 became a straight-up massive hit, defying any and all expectations.
As a result, all eyes are now on Terrifier 4. Leone has kept everything pretty close to the chest but in February he said that the script was close to completion. He also said that they were hoping to begin pre-production in the spring. “This is the most precious script I’ve written for many reasons, but it’s also the most challenging,” Leone added at the time.
While specifics have remained elusive, Thornton previously promised that it will be “bat-shit insane.” Leone has also revealed that it will dive into Art the Clown’s origins, which have largely been kept mysterious up to this point. Beyond that, very little has been said in terms of casting or anything of that nature. One expects that things will begin happening sooner rather than later in light of this latest update.
Terrifier 4 doesn’t have a release date yet but stay tuned.
