Fango alum Rebekah McKendry is putting a new spin on supernatural horror with her new film Sundown, and now it’s been acquired by one of the best streamers in the business. Variety reports that Shudder has acquired the distribution rights to the upcoming film, which stars Carrie lead Summer H. Howell.
Directed by McKendry from a script by Joshua Hull and David Ian McKendry, Sundown also stars Olwen Fouéré, Camille Sullivan, Daniel Bernhardt, and David Alpay, Kyle Mac, Elisa Paszt, David Ian McKendry, Junko Bailey, and Megan Best. The film’s logline, per Variety, is as follows:
‘Sundown’ follows three generations of women who reunite in a remote cabin to avenge a loved one’s death, only to discover their captive isn’t who he seems to be, and his family is closing in, waiting for sundown.
“The town in ‘Sundown’ feels very much like the hometown of my youth, and its family squabbles are ones I know all too well,” McKendry said to Variety. “I am both a daughter and a mother, and this film allowed me to explore female relationships inspired by my own life while celebrating my deep love of ’80s vampire movies. Add monsters, revenge, and a sharp dose of acerbic wit, and this became a passion project for me. Even while trudging through two feet of snow in temperatures as low as -40 degrees, our cast, crew, and producers never stopped giving this film everything they had.”
Sundown is McKendry’s fourth film, and her second featuring a script from Hull and her husband David, who also wrote her 2022 film Glorious. The film is produced by music legend Slash, alongside Pasha Patriki, Michael Pszt, Andrew Thomas Hunt, and James Fler.
“‘Sundown’ is ferocious, smart and completely unafraid to have a great time with horror,” said IFC’s Mark Ward. “Rebekah yet again proves that she can sustain a killer tone that balances brutal thrills and genuine supernatural menace, delivering the kind of wild ride that stays with you. We knew immediately that this was a film Shudder audiences would embrace.”
