Netflix has unleashed the second official trailer for the fifth season of Stranger Things, ahead of the final showdown hitting the streamer in two parts premiering on November 26, with the next three episodes releasing on Christmas Day, and the series finale premiering on December 31 in theaters too for the first time ever.
Returning for the last hurrah of the Duffer Brothers' smash-hit sci-fi horror series are stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo (seen in today's new trailer wearing a Hellfire Club shirt as a nod to the late Eddie Munson – sob!), Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke and more, as well as a new cameo appearance from ‘80s icon Linda Hamilton. The season synopsis reads as follows:
The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding.
As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.
If you're sad about saying goodbye to Eleven et al, the recent news that the upcoming Stranger Things spinoff is going to focus on entirely new characters may add salt to the wound. However, seeing as the show is one of Netflix's biggest hits of all time, amassing over 140 million hours of views, we can't imagine this is really goodbye forever.
