Blumhouse is dipping their toes into a new kind of IP. The horror production company just announced that theyโ€™ll be adapting the bestselling comic series Something Is Killing the Children, with a twist: the story will be turned into not just a feature film, but also an adult animated series.ย

Written by James Tynion IV with art by Werther Dellโ€™Edera, Something Is Killing the Children is one of the most successful original horror comics of all time, keeping pace with The Walking Dead and selling over five million copies worldwide. The seriesโ€™ success also made Tynion the first writer since Alan Moore to win the Eisner Award for Best Writer three consecutive years in a row.ย

The comicโ€™s logline is as follows:

Set in a world where children can see monsters, but adults cannot, Something is Killing the Children tells the story of Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter from a mysterious organization more concerned with keeping the secret of monsters from the world than saving their victims.ย

โ€œSomething is Killing the Children is the comic book that changed my life and career forever.โ€ said James Tynion IV. โ€œFinding a partner who understood the potential of Erica Slaughter and the world Werther Dellโ€™Edera and I have built was crucial, and we have found that partner in Jason Blum. Nobody understands horror better than Blumhouse, and I canโ€™t wait for the world to see what we all have planned together.โ€

Tynion and Dellโ€™Edera will not only produce the film alongside Stephen Christy, but will also serve as executive producers on the series, ensuring that the artistsโ€™ vision comes through in this new medium. The film will also be produced by Jason Blum, Shaun Sutton, Ryan Turek, Adam Yoelin, and Mette Norkjaer, with Christy, Yoelin, and Norkjaer also producing the animated series.ย

โ€œItโ€™s easy to see why audiences and critics alike have praised Something is Killing the Children,โ€ said Blum. โ€œJames and Wertherโ€™s comic book series taps into our most primal fears, luring us into a fascinating world and introducing Erica Slaughter, the ass-kicking hero we all wish we had to fight the monsters that lurk in the dark.โ€

No release date has been announced for either of Blumhouseโ€™s adaptations of Something Is Killing the Children. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates as they arrive.
