There’s nothing better than a good old fashioned adventure — especially when you add a good dose of skeletons and ghosts to it. Today, Goats Flying Press announced Sir Reginald & The Clockwork Heart, a new horror adventure anthology series, featuring five interconnected tales of intrigue from writer Joe Atalla.
With Atalla making the jump from illustrating to writing with the new anthology, Sir Reginald features five artists illustrating each story in the book, including Juni Ba, Jesse Lonergan, Dinitrios Pantazis, and Armand Bodnar. With colors by Brad Simpson and letters by Jeff Powell, the ninety-six page hardcover book is the perfect investment for reading on a dark and stormy night, with a synopsis as follows:
From scorching deserts to fathomless oceans, from sacred temples to ancient graveyards, Sir Reginald and the Clockwork Heart follows the eccentric adventurer Sir Reginald, intrepid gentleman (and skeleton) adventurer and his loyal ghostly butler Mr. Spittle, on a series of extraordinary expeditions. On each adventure, Reginald finds a mysterious artifact to add to his growing collection. However, there is more to these missions than meets the eye… What is Sir Reginald really scouring the globe for? And what is the secret project he keeps hidden even from his close confidant Mr. Spittle in his secret workshop?
The anthology is broken down into the following tales: the lost pyramid tale The Curse of Osiris, a deep sea dive to In The Deep Below, a trek to The Lost Temple, a battle with The Wyrm of Destruction, and the climactic tale The Clockwork Heart. Each connects to the story’s overarching mystery, as Sir Reginald races to undo the greatest regret of his life, no matter the cost.
“Sir Reginald and the Clockwork Heart has everything I think a comic should today—memorable characters, action, adventure, romance, humor and a dash of mystery,” said Atalla. “Beneath this lies a fiercely beating heart that will make you question yourself by the end of the story. I'm so proud of what my collaborators and I have created. These stories have something for everyone.”
