Exclusive SHAMAN Stills Preview A Demonic Horror With Indigenous Roots

Antonio Negret's "unique and unsettling" feature will premiere at Austin Film Festival on October 25.

Shaman, the upcoming horror thriller from Colombian director Antonio Negret, writer Daniel Negret (also the executive producer of Talk To Me), will have its World Premiere at Austin Film Festival on October 25, and we're pleased to bring you an exclusive sneak peek of some demonic stills today.

Starring Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries, War for the Planet of the Apes, A Series of Unfortunate Events), Daniel Gillies (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals), and Jett Klyne (WandaVision, Multiverse of Madness, The Boy in the Woods), Shaman follows:

Candice, a devout Catholic missionary, works hard to convert an Indigenous community in the remote Ecuadorian Andes, alongside her husband Joel and their teenage son, Elliot. Living near the Chimborazo volcano, their peaceful life is disrupted when tensions arise with the local Shaman, who resists the changes Candice and a bilingual priest, Father Meyer, have introduced.

Sounds creepy right? Well, things quickly get worse…

When Elliot falls mysteriously ill, Candice suspects the Shamanโ€™s involvement, believing it to be a form of retaliation. As Elliotโ€™s condition worsens, Candice realizes that the cause is far more terrifying than she imagined – Elliot is possessed by a powerful, ancient entity. Faced with the horrifying possibility that this demon is older than her faith, Candice is forced to make an unthinkable choice โ€” one that could either save her son or cost them their very souls.

In an interview with Screen Daily, Negret expanded more on the themes of Shaman:

With Shaman, we set out to flip the white saviour trope on its head and shed light on the dangers of forcing oneโ€™s beliefs onto others. We hope this film makes people think, while also disturbing them in the most horrific ways.

If you're heading to Austin Film Festival, don't miss Shaman on October 25, and we'll bring you more release details as we get them. Check out our exclusive stills and metal AF promo art reveal below.
