Tonight brings another full moon, and with it a brand new trailer for Robert Eggers' ye olde creature feature Werwulf, hitting theaters on Christmas Day via Focus Features. Sink yer fangs in:
Directed by Eggers from a script he co-wrote with Icelandic poet Sjón, the film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson, and Lily-Rose Depp, all of whom featured in his last film, Nosferatu. Described in its logline as “a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation, and the devil within,” Werwulf is set in a 13th century English village plagued by a mysterious beast — as the tale goes in almost all werewolf stories — with local folklore becoming gruesome reality for its inhabitants.
In a surprisingly modern twist for an Eggers film', Werwulf also has its very own ARG (alternate reality game, for the un-online), which can be accessed by visiting DevourethAllMankynde.com.
The game is timed to each of the full moons between September through November, with the first clue right here, culminating in a mysterious prize for those that complete all three moons each full moon. Fans will need to seek out a hidden “sign” on various digital platforms and decipher the sign back into the site in order to fulfill the moon. The catch is, you only get 24 hours each full moon to search for the sign before it disappears – so you’ll need to work fast to find it.
