Fresh off of new images shared during last night's Silent Hill Transmission, Christophe Gans'ย Return to Silent Hill finally has a new teaser trailer that gives us a better look at how characters from the source material, Silent Hill 2,ย look in live action.
Starring Jeremy Irvine (Baghead, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death) and Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw, What Keeps You Alive),ย Return to Silent Hill follows James, “a man broken after being separated from his one true love. When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil.”
Gans wrote the script alongsideย Sandra Vo-Anhย andย William Josef Schneider.
For those who haven't played Konami's masterful 2001 psychological horrorย Silent Hill 2, here's a little more of what to expect from the adaptation's plot:
As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and hold on long enough to save his lost love.
The trailer (seen below), tweeted by Konami earlier today, shows some of the game's iconic monsters, including the Bubblehead Nurses and, of course, series mascot Pyramid Head.ย Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka is also back on board with a fresh take on his iconic soundtrack.
Return to Silent Hillย marks Gans' return to the world of Silent Hillย following 2006'sย Silent Hill, which was loosely based on the gameย Silent Hill 1.ย
Gans, who has been a longtime fan of the game series, is keen to share his vision, stating:
โReturn to Silent Hill is a mythological love story about someone so deeply in love, theyโre willing to go to hell to save someone […] Iโm delighted to have the wonderful talents of both Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson take us on this journey into a psychological horror world that I hope will both satisfy and surprise fans of Silent Hill.โ
Producer Victor Hadida adds:
โChristophe and I have been working closely with our partners at Konami, as they update the video game, to also create a version ofย Silent Hill for the theatrical audiences of today […] You will still find the iconic monsters โ but there will also be new designs. We are confident that this new film and Konamiโs updated game together will propel the franchise forward for years to come.โ
Return to Silent Hill does not yet have a release date but will hopefully be along later this year. We'll bring you updates on the foggy town as we get 'em.
