It’s time to go apeshit. Paramount+ has announced that Primate, the latest creature feature from 47 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts, will hit the platform next week, joining a whole host of high-profile horror movies on the steamer just before it hits physical media.
Starring Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, Victoria Wyant, and Oscar winner Troy Kotsur, Primate will arrive on Paramount+ on March 25, just over two months after it hit theaters, and a month before it arrives on Blu-ray and DVD. Also currently available to rent or buy on digital, the film’s synopsis is as follows:
Lucy’s tropical island homecoming was supposed to be beaches and best friends—not a fight for her life. When her family’s exceptionally clever chimp spirals into a savage rabid frenzy, the night explodes into terrifying chaos. With her father away and no help coming, paradise becomes a prison as Lucy and her friends fight to survive a deadly predator they once trusted.

FANGORIA’s own Brandon Wainerdi praised Primate for remaining fresh despite playing on beloved slasher tropes, with “a tight script, a breezy concept…deft camera work, great kills, and a pulse-pounding John-Carpenter-wannabe score.” The film grossed just over $40 million worldwide, and joins an extensive collection of horror films on Paramount+, including A Quiet Place, Scream, and Smile.
Primate isn’t the only killer animal movie to hit our screens lately, though. While the apeshit (badum-tss!) film is more closely based on real life events than most creature features, we also recently saw the release of Dangerous Animals, a FANGORIA favorite, in 2025, and 2026 also has films like Killer Whale and Grizzly Night, based on the real attack coined “The Night of the Grizzlies,” in store.
Primate streams on Paramount+ beginning March 25.
