Fans of true crime and home invasion thrillers, this one’s for you. The first trailer for Invader has arrived as the film gets ready for its limited theatrical debut through the Alamo Drafthouse next month. While the trailer doesn’t give too much away, it’s enough to make director Mickey Keating’s latest seem like an intriguing prospect. This thing looks stylishly lean and mean. Have a look for yourself.
From the old music to the choice of quaint neighborhood, this trailer clearly wants to emphasize the whole “it could happen to you” nature of horrific, violent crimes. It then quickly devolves into a series of shots with next to no context. What’s clear is that this is going to be chaotic and terrifying for those involved. The official synopsis for the film reads as follows:
“A young woman arrives in the Chicago suburbs and begins to suspect that something terrible has happened to her missing cousin, but soon realizes that her greatest fears don’t even begin to scratch the surface.”
Of note, the movie is only 70 minutes long, which is quite short compared to most features, particularly ones that get any sort of theatrical release. But, as the Drafthouse proclaims, “This nasty little film might not have the most robust of runtimes, but that’s only because it’s had all possible fat trimmed to crank the terror up to eleven. Better buckle up, because you’re in for a bumpy ride.” They are selling this as a thriller without an ounce of fat. That is undoubtedly appealing. The Drafthouse will give the movie a one-week engagement at these theaters:

- Austin / Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar
- Chicago / Alamo Drafthouse Wrigleyville
Keating, who also penned the screenplay, previously directed Offseason and Carnage Park. Vero Maynez, Colin Huerta and Ruby Vallejo star in the film.
