This March ALTER is resurfacing releases from female directors with livestreams every Sunday on YouTube. All month long, each livestream will be a fundraiser for the Alliance of Women Directors (AWD) with community manager Shannon Wiedemeyer moderating and engaging with the fans in the live chat. Get caught up on the first installment below, and tune in live this Sunday for Volume II.

6 March: WOMEN IN HORROR: VOL. 1

“Conventional” by Karen Gillan
A horror film actress deals with her fall from stardom.

“Birdie” by Shelly Lauman
On a bright, ordinary day in the city a woman walks alone to the train station. As she descends the stairs to the underground platform she smiles at a young man. He smiles back. With the smallest of gestures, the woman is caught in a subtle and sinister game.

“The Herd” by Melanie Light
A number of kidnapped and trafficked women find themselves imprisoned in a squalid medical facility. Escape, on any level, is seemingly impossible as the women are condemned to a life of enforced servitude at the whims of their captors for one reason only – their milk.

“LVRS” by Emily Bennett
A magical realism/horror film that explores the paradox of why a woman chooses to stay in an abusive relationship.

Alliance of Women Directors is a nonprofit organization created to support education and advocacy for women directors in film, television, and new media. Alliance of Women Directors was founded in 1997 by alumnae of the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women as a community of peers to share information and support one another’s career advancement.
