The year has only just begun, and A24 has already begun rolling out the red carpet for their latest horror film, the next in a long line of much-lauded projects. Opus, described as โ€œflashy pop horrorโ€ about a โ€œtense, psychological game of cat and mouseโ€ has just received eight new character posters, highlighting the familiar faces that will fill out the first major horror release of the year.

Premiering at this yearโ€™s Sundance Film Festival, the debut film from writer-director Mark Anthony Green โ€œcenters on an ambitious young writer invited to the isolated compound of an iconic pop star who mysteriously disappeared and hasn't been seen in three decades. There she discovers, surrounded by the musician's cult of followers, the twisted machinations behind his grand return.โ€ The Bearโ€™s Ayo Edebiri plays the young writer, while the mysterious pop star is played by genre icon John Malkovich.

The rest of the filmโ€™s cult (of personality) is filled out by a number of big name stars, including Preyโ€™s Amber Midthunder, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Stephanie Suganami, Young Mazino, and Tony Hale. They all appear in their resplendent glamour in the new character posters, with literal stars in their eyes over being let into the pop starโ€™s inner circle. Itโ€™s probably safe to say that those stars wonโ€™t remain, however.

Similar to last yearโ€™s Trap and Smile 2, the film is said to feature musical numbers, though to what extent, we donโ€™t know, as much of the film is being kept under wraps ahead of its premiere at Sundance. Though we may get a better idea of just what awaits us on January 21, when A24 is set to drop the filmโ€™s trailer.

Opus premieres in theaters on March 14, following its Sundance premiere. Check out the new character posters below:
