Our friends over at Welcome Villain Films have partnered with Massacre Video to release a limited edition Blu-ray of their supernatural yoga horror Mind Body Spirit. The film from directors Alex Henes and Matthew Merenda is of the found footage variety known as screenlife (think Unfriended or Rob Savage’s Host), where the action unfolds on a computer screen. Here's the official synopsis:
Directed by Alex Henes and Matthew Merenda, MIND BODY SPIRIT follows Anya, an aspiring yoga influencer, as she embarks on a ritual practice left behind by her estranged grandmother. What starts as a spiritual self-help guide quickly evolves into something much more sinister. As Anya becomes obsessed with the mysterious power of the practice, she unwittingly unleashes an otherworldly entity that begins to take control of her life — and her videos. Now Anya must race to unlock the truth, before her descent into madness threatens to consume her mind, body and spirit.
The Blu-ray release of Mind Body Spirit is packed with special features. Fans can look forward to the fully uncut master and uncompressed PCM English audio in both 5.1 surround sound and 2.0 stereo. The disc also features audio commentary with directors Alex Henes and Matthew Merenda, moderated by bicflame. The disc will also include rare deleted scenes, location footage, and audition footage, providing a deeper look behind the scenes of the filmmaking process. BTS stills and the original trailer are also included, along with English captions. As a bonus, trailers for other Massacre Video releases are also featured on the disc. The film premiered at the Telluride Horror Show and has since played at the Chattanooga Film Festival, and Unnamed Footage Festival among others. It currently sits at 94% on RottenTomatoes. The cast is led by Sarah J. Bartholomew as Anya, with Madi Bready, Kristi Noory, KJ Flahive and Anna Knigge rounding out the ensemble. Henes and Merenda also penned the screenplay alongside Topher Hendricks. The film was produced by Dan Asma and Jesse McClung.
