THE LAST DRIVE-IN Is Hosting A FRIDAY THE 13TH Double Feature

Joe Bob Briggs is taking on Jason Voorhees as part of AMCโ€™s FearFest.

Jason Voorhees is coming to The Last Drive-In. This is not a drill! Thatโ€™s right, Mutant Fam. AMC has revealed its full schedule for FearFest 2024, the networkโ€™s annual celebration of all things horror, and as part of this yearโ€™s festivities, Joe Bob Briggs will be hosting a Friday the 13th double feature. So sharpen the machetes and pop the popcorn, as the double feature will be taking place on Wednesday, October 9. Mark your calendars and plan accordingly.

The double feature kicks off at 8 pm ET with the original 1980 slasher classic Friday the 13th, followed by 1981โ€™s Friday the 13th Part 2. So, the only real downside is that we donโ€™t get Jason in the hockey mask as he doesnโ€™t don that look until Part III, despite being the look most commonly associated with the beloved slasher. But that is neither here nor there.

There is more Friday the 13th on deck as part of this yearโ€™s full FearFest lineup (which you can find here). AMC is hosting a marathon of the films on Saturday, October 5, as well as a second Voorhees-centric marathon on Friday, October 25. Jason will also be heavily featured during the Fear the 80s Marathon on Sunday, October 13, and the Slasher Sunday block on Sunday, October 20.

The Last Drive-In season 6 recently came to an end, with Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl hosting a super-sized, six-movie marathon to bring it home. Luckily, AMC and Shudder arenโ€™t making us wait too long to get the band back together. The big thing here is that this will be a return to the double feature format, which was how Briggs handled the show for the first five seasons. For season 6, they went to a single-feature, bi-weekly format.

โ€œThere are a lot of people who miss the doubles and they would rather us do the double features,โ€ Briggs told us in a recent interview in honor of The Last Drive-In returning for season 7 on Shudder. โ€œI would say there are more that are either okay with the singles or prefer the singles, and so weโ€™ll probably stay with singles.โ€

Meanwhile, the horror world is still waiting for the return of Jason Voorhees. We havenโ€™t had a new movie since 2009, and a new Friday the 13th movie isnโ€™t happening any time soon. A24 and Peacock, however, are putting together a TV show titled Crystal Lake, which has had its share of development troubles along the way. After losing Bryan Fuller (Hannibal), it was recently revealed that Brad Kaleb Kane (Fringe) has been brought on board as the new showrunner
