Heeeere’s Johnny! One of the horror highlights of New York Comic Con came from a surprise reveal shared by Ry Barrett, who returns as the masked killer Johnny, during the Shudder panel: the highly anticipated In A Violent Nature: Part 2 is heading to theaters on February 12, 2027
For those at home who don’t want to do the math, that’s only about four months away. Which means despite the summer camp vibes of the new film, Shudder and Independent Film Company aren’t making us wait an additional two seasons for Johnny to show off his new ways of terrorizing teenagers.
The announcement follows the film’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest, where the return of the franchise’s relentless killer gave horror fans their first look at what’s next. With its unconventional perspective, deliberately patient pacing, and unapologetically gruesome kills, the original In A Violent Nature carved out a distinctive and polarizing place in the modern slasher landscape. Now, Johnny is back, and he’s ready to make his next outing even more vicious.
As FANGORIA contributor Brandon Wainerdi noted in his review after the Secret Screening at this year’s Fantastic Fest, “Pivoting to a camp setting really fleshes out this world, making the Friday the 13th comparisons even more apt and giving the filmmakers a familiar lens to work in.”

The summer camp setting should feel right at home for fans of classic slashers (did you get your copy of FANGORIA Presents: Camp Slashers yet?), but In A Violent Nature: Part 2 promises to do more than follow the genre’s usual playbook. And considering the first In A Violent Nature film features a kill so brutal it won the FANGORIA Chainsaw Award for Best Kill, gorehounds have plenty to look forward to with this sequel. The latest installment pushes those boundaries even further, and audiences may want to brace themselves for some seriously stomach-churning movie-theater moments. In Wainerdi’s words:
“The kills are much more brutal than its predecessor (if you can believe it), with a real focus on some gnarly practical effects, edging ever closer to Terrifier territory. The visuals remain rich and lush, with the original film's “artsy” nature carrying over to the sequel. The sound design was also a standout when watching it in the theater: every squelch and every step was very pronounced and cringe-inducing.”
The first film flipped the script on the slasher formula by following Johnny in somewhat of a “day in the life of a slasher” story, giving audiences insight into what a masked killer gets up to between the carnage, instead of following the stories of pesky teenagers lined up for the slaughter. Check out the film’s plot synopsis for Part 2:
“In Part 2, Johnny’s violent rampage leads him to a summer camp just as a young, outcast camper is forced to spend the night with his counselor sister and her friends at their annual end-of-season party. The first film’s unique approach to the slasher genre, uncompromising gore and unforgettable kills, established Johnny as a new horror icon. Part 2 picks up immediately where the first film ends, as Johnny finds a new batch of victims and expands on the killer's lore, while pushing the possibilities of extreme kills even further.”
In A Violent Nature: Part 2 is co-directed by Nate Wilson and Chris Nash, who also penned the script. The film is produced by Peter Kuplowsky, Shannon Hanmer, and Nash.
If you forgot to add it to your calendar, let me save you the scroll back up. Johnny’s next rampage arrives in theaters on February 12, 2027. Sharpen your survival instincts, horror fans. You’re going to need them.
