It seems like Mike Mignola announces a new comic series every month these days, and this summer is no exception. Dark Horse Comics announced that the Hellboy creator will be returning to the world of everybody’s favorite BRPD agent for not one, but two new miniseries that hit shelves this fall.
Both new projects serve as a continuation of Hellboy in Hell, a series that ran from 2012 to 2016 and told the truth about Hellboy’s origins. The first, titled Hellboy In Hell: Nothing But Blood, features art by Cyrille Pomès, while the second, Hellboy In Hell: Parade of Horrors, reteams Mignola with artist Márk László, who he worked with on Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.:Time is a River. The synopsis for both projects is as follows:
Following the events of Hellboy in Hell, Hellboy sets off in search of a drink, but finds himself in a cemetery just in time to witness a macabre procession in honor of Satan’s death. Not all of the demons are happy to see him after their Lord’s murder. This morbid celebration in the pits of Pandemonium will introduce readers to a horrific host of new characters haunting the hallowed halls of Hell and send Hellboy on an all-new adventure in surreal depths of Mike Mignola’s singular version of Hell.

“I hadn’t planned to return to Hellboy’s HELL — I certainly didn’t think I’d ever let anyone else in there. But I love Márk’s work, and when we met he said he wanted to do a story set there. Well, how could I say no?” says Mike Mignola. “Fortunately, there were a couple big holes between the chapters I’d drawn and I thought Márk would have fun with those two dead soldiers we meet in “The Three Gold Whips” — and he did!
“I only gave him a rough outline for a story, and he took it from there. And as things took shape, we found a place to introduce a bit more of the history of the place. Every time I think we are done with this thing it seems we find there are just a few more bits and pieces to explore, which I guess is a good thing.”
Mignola recently released Leonide The Vampyr: The House of Yonda this spring, and is also set to write Uri Tupka and the Devils, the newest installment in his Lands Unknown universe that hits shelves in November. Nothing But Blood and Parade of Horrors arrive after Mignola co-wrote a Hellboy spinoff with his brother Todd, titled The Crown: A Tale of Hell, back in February.
Hellboy in Hell: Nothing But Blood #1 hits shelves on October 7, and Hellboy in Hell: Parade of Horrors #1 arrives on December 16.
