Toho has released a brand new trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero. The studio previously released a brief teaser for the much-anticipated sequel to 2023’s Godzilla Minus One, which sees the King of the Monsters headed to New York City. It still left viewers with more questions than answers though. Now? The curtain has been pulled back with just a bit more footage to give us a slightly better idea of what to expect when the legendary monster returns to the big screen later this year. Check it out.

This is very much just another brief teaser but it reveals that humanity is taking desperate measures to deal with Godzilla this time around. We don't see much of the man himself, but he does emerge from the water at the very end of the trailer and he's noticibly much, much bigger than he was last time. As for why he's so much bigger this time around? That remains to be seen but it's noticible.

The sequel picks up in 1949, two years after the tumultuous events of Godzilla Minus One, once again focusing on the Shikishima family as they face an all-new kaiju threat. Ryunosuke Kamiki returns as Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe is back as Noriko Oishi.

Godzilla Minus One is one the most unexpected mainstream hits in recent years. Produced on a relatively miniscule budget, it made nearly $114 million at the global box office, going on to win the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. It marked the first time in the history of the Godzilla franchise that any of the movies had won an Oscar. That put a spotlight on the follow-up, but it also meant that Yamazaki was able to secure a bigger budget for the sequel. The footage we’ve seen thus far very much indicates the money is being put to good use.

This is just one of several projects related to Godzilla we have coming down the pipeline over the next several years. Biggest of all is the latest entry in the MonsterVerse, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which is in production now for a March 2027 release. Plot details largely remain under wraps but it serves as a sequel to 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Apple TV also has a Monarch: Legacy of Monsters spin-off series in the works centered on Wyatt Russell’s Lee Shaw.

Godzilla Minus Zero hits theaters on November 6.
