Hollywood is full of stories of “What could have been” — films or shows that never got made for a variety of reasons. We’ve all got that one that we wish had made it to fruition (looking at you, Guillermo del Toro’s Haunted Mansion), but rarely does the reason why it never made it to our screens come to light. Now, Uncork’d Entertainment is giving audiences the opportunity to peek behind the scenes at one of those “what could have been” stories: George A Romero’s Resident Evil

The trailer for the upcoming documentary has just been released, which tells the story of Constantin Film setting out to adapt the popular video game series for the big screen. Bringing legendary filmmaker Romero into the fold, the project was highly anticipated but never came to fruition, and George A. Romero’s Resident Evil will explore what happened behind the scenes, featuring archival footage, newly uncovered documents, and new interviews.

George Romero gave birth to modern horror, the modern zombie, and ultimately Resident Evil,” says director Brandon Salisbury. “I am honored to bring fans the untold story of his most important unmade project, to celebrate the legacy of the man that inspired me to pursue filmmaking as a career. I hope fans enjoy this ultimate experience in survival horror.”

“Uncork’d is honored to bring George A. Romero’s Resident Evil to fans who have long awaited the untold story behind this legendary, unmade project,” says Keith Leopard, President of Uncork’d Entertainment. “This documentary pays homage to Romero’s incredible vision and the power of storytelling that transcends what could have been. We’re excited for audiences to finally experience the mystery and legacy of his work in a whole new way.”

George A. Romero’s Resident Evil will be available on digital and on demand tomorrow, January 7. Watch the trailer below:
