Good news for fans of the Voorhees family who live in the U.K. Or for anyone who is willing to import a physical media release via the internet. Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 slasher classic Friday the 13th is getting a new 4K Ultra HD and SteelBook release in the U.K. in October, just in time for the Halloween season. The movie that introduced the world Jason Voorhees is being released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment for the first time in the UK on 4K for the very first time.

Both the standard 4K edition and SteelBook are due to hit shelves in the U.K. on October 12, 2026. The retail prices for the releases are set at £23 for the 4K UHD and £35 SteelBook. Even for those who don’t live in the U.K., it’s worth noting that 4K discs aren’t region coded like DVDs and Blu-rays are. So if you can find a copy of this forthcoming release online and you live anywhere in the world with a 4K Blu-ray player, you’ll be good to go.

For what it’s worth, this isn’t the first time that Friday the 13th has made its way to 4K anywhere in the world. That would be a bigger deal. But it’s crazy that this movie hasn’t been made available in UHD in the U.K. until now. Still, better late than never.

The original movie in the franchise focuses on a group of camp counselors trying to reopen a summer camp called Crystal Lake, which has a grim past. They wind up stalked by a mysterious killer who, spoiler alert, is revealed to be Pamela Voorhees, the mother of Jason, who drowned in the lake. More spoilers, Jason emerges from the lake at the end, teeing up every other movie in the franchise that has come since.

The sequels have slowly been making their way to 4K in recent years. 2009’s Friday the 13th got a great 4K release from Arrow a couple of years back. Arrow also recently did similar releases for Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X. There’s no comprehensive 4K box set, but that could be a long way off, if it ever happens at all.

The rights to the franchise famously got messy over the last decade or so, which is why we haven’t had a new movie. But we do have Crystal Lake, a prequel series focused on Pamela, coming to Peacock later this year. But there’s a reason why it doesn’t have Friday the 13th in the title, or an adult Jason. It’s all kind of a mess. So, watching the originals in crispy HD will have to do for now. Folks in the U.K. will, at long last, be able to do that with ease in just a couple of months.
