Fans of found footage horror, this one’s for you. Today, we at Fango are happy to announce that Sundown, the latest from the folks at Ragnarok Films, has wrapped filming. To commemorate the occasion, we have four new photos from the film to share before it arrives for all to see next year. We certainly wouldn’t want to give too much away too soon, so these photos very much keep the mystery alive while offering a small taste of what’s to come. Check it out.

The film recently wrapped principal photography , which took place in Catskills and Saugerties, NY. The film was written by Brian Klingborg (author of the Lu Fei mystery series), who co-directed the film alongside Marcus Slabine (Dark Offerings, The Last Call). As for the photos, we have one that shows the filmmakers getting to work behind-the-scenes, looking happy to be doing the work. The other ones are a bit more ominous. The creepiest one of the bunch sees someone – or something – lurking in the background. As for what it’s all about? The synopsis for Sundown reads as follows:

“A woman whose husband has recently died of dementia claims his spirit is haunting her house. When her estranged son Chris learns that Mary believes she is being haunted, he arrives with his filmmaker friend Bill and a spiritualist named Clarissa with the intention of proving to Mary that it’s all in her head.”

One of the nice things about horror is that everything old can become new again. At the very least, nothing ever truly dies. Slashers were as dead as fried chicken in the early ‘90s before Wes Craven’s Scream revived the craze. Similarly, The Blair Witch Project revolutionized the found footage subgenre in 1999. A decade later, Paranormal Activity brought it roaring back to life. It has since remained a way for filmmakers to execute creative ideas on a smaller budget. When it works, the results can be truly special. We’ll have to wait and see what Klingborg and Slabine have in store for us next year. Their film is currently expected to arrive in fall 2025.

The film stars Damian Maffei (The Strangers Prey at Night, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game), Emily Sweet (Eight Eyes, Castle Freak), Chris Alexander, Kelly Walters and Erich Rausch. It was produced by Brian Klingborg of Ragnarok Films, Chris Alexander and Marcus Slabine.
