Horror is sometimes just horror but, so often, if another genre can be brought to the party, great things can happen. Science fiction and horror often make for good bedfellows, with classics such as The Thing and Re-Animator serving as great examples. Even the V/H/S franchise is going sci-fi with this yearโs V/H/S/Beyond. Director Cameron Beyl is now offering his blend of the two genres in his feature film debut, The Veil. Before the film arrives on VOD next month, we here at Fango are pleased to bring you the exclusive trailer. Check it out.
The trailer plays things pretty close to the chest. We donโt get a great sense for the characters, but we do know that our protagonist lives in isolation. Strange things start happening when a bizarre occurrence lights up the sky. A mysterious woman arrives at his door. Someone (or something?) is stalking them in the woods. Between the religious undertones and the sci-fi trappings, itโs all very peculiar and unsettling. As for the particulars of the story? The synopsis for the film reads as follows:
โBridging the divide between the horror and science fiction genres, The Veil is a haunting tale about the mysteries of identity and perception told in the cadence of the classic American ghost story. As a powerful solar storm descends on the valleys of rural Pennsylvania, bathing the rustic pines in the shimmering emerald glow of aurora borealis, a retired priest named Douglas (Sean OโBryan) rouses awake to urgent knocking at the door of his isolated farmhouse. His unexpected midnight visitor is Hannah (Rebekah Kennedy), a young Amish woman desperate for shelter after a personal crisis drives her to flee her insular community.โ
The film stars Sean O'Bryan (Olympus Has Fallen) and rising genre starlet Rebekah Kennedy (Two Witches) and Will Tranfo (Room 104). Kyle F. Andrews and Beyl are on board as producers, with Buffalo 8 Distribution handling the release.
The Veil had its world premiere at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, OR, before screening as an official selection at the Austin Film Festival's 30th Anniversary Program, in addition to making the rounds at several other festivals. The film will also have a booth at HorrorCon LA , with cast and filmmakers in attendance September 14 and 15.
โCameron Beyl has created a haunting narrative that pushes the boundaries of horror and human emotion,โ said Buffalo 8โs Head of Distribution Nikki Stier Justice. โWe are excited to share this immersive experience with audiences looking for a fresh take on the horror genre and look forward to their reactions.โ
