Despite all the great news about new films, itโs a sad day for Evil Dead fans. Reports surfaced that Evil Dead: The Game, a multiplayer online game originally released in 2022, had been quietly removed from all available online stores, and now it looks like the gameโs meeting its end as its developer confirms plans to axe it altogether.
Fans had noticed that the game had gone missing from both the PlayStation Store and the Epic Games Store, and it took the gameโs Steam page to reveal that the developers had chosen to pull the game from online stores, though players whoโve already purchased the game will still be able to play it โ for now.
โWe can confirm weโve begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone,โ Saber Interactive said in a statement. โWe want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.โ
Saber did not provide a reason for pulling the game, but after only three years being on the market, it seems awfully early to be getting rid of the whole thing. No news was shared as to how long the gameโs server will remain online either, leaving us to assume that Evil Dead: The Game will go the way of Friday the 13th: The Game, whose servers shut down earlier this year after a seven-year run.
Original Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell, who reprised his role as Ash for the game, also responded to the shut down, tweeting a simple, โDead end.โ The game had marked his first time back in the franchise since the end of the series Ash vs. Evil Dead, and also featured original cast members Ellen Sandweiss, Hel Delrich, Betsy Baker, and Theresa Tilly in a game that allowed players to play as both iconic characters or demons from Hell, in both single player tournaments and 4-v-1 matches.
