Netflix's upcoming Cujo adaptation is reportedly being circled by none other than director Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Whale), The Hollywood Reporter alleges today.

As previously reported, Roy Lee (It, Barbarian) is set to produce the film based on Stephen King's killer canine classic, with no word yet on a writer.

King's Cujo, released in 1981, follows the chaos of the titular rabid Saint Bernard as he wreaks havoc on the town of Castle Rock and the Trenton family in particular. The novel was first adapted into film in 1983 by Lewis Teague, starring Dee Wallace as Trenton family matriarch Donna.

While Aronofsky might seem like a somewhat unusual choice for a Cujo adaptation, the Requiem for a Dream and mother! director is certainly no stranger to crafting anxiety-inducing scenes akin to the novel's Ford Pinto-set showdown. He's also probably not averse to sticking to Cujo‘s original novel ending, if you catch our drift.

Cujo joins the long list of upcoming King adaptations coming soon, notably Edgar Wright's The Running Man, HBO's It prequel series Welcome to Derry, Mike Flanagan's Carrie series at Amazon (plus his The Life of Chuck coming this summer) and Jack Bender's The Institute  to name but a few.

Look out for more developments on Cujo, and Aronofsky's potential involvement, as we get it.
