The creative team behind one of modern horror’s most unsettling franchises is getting back in the game. Patrick Brice, the filmmaker behind the cult-favorite Creep films and Shudder’s The Creep Tapes, is gearing up for a new psychological horror feature, and he's bringing along a seriously impressive lineup of young talent. The news broke over at Variety.
Violet stars Lili Reinhart (Riverdale, Forbidden Fruits), Danny Ramirez (The Last of Us), Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch), Lukas Gage (Companion), and Creep star Mark Duplass, and is set to lead the film, which promises to explore the increasingly blurred boundaries between grief, obsession, technology, and the supernatural. With a cast stacked with rising stars and familiar faces from the genre world, Violet is already shaping up to be one to watch.

Brice will direct from a screenplay by Nick Antosca, the horror mind behind Channel Zero, The Act, and Brand New Cherry Flavor, alongside Alana B. Lytle. The screenplay is adapted from Antosca’s short story “Ghostfish,” and SK Global and Generator Entertainment are producing and financing the project. FilmNation Entertainment will handle domestic and international sales, launching the package at the American Film Market. Production is expected to begin in spring 2027.
And the premise sounds like a nightmare that I immediately need in my eyeballs:
Two years after the sudden death of his fiancée, Violet (Waterhouse), Sean (Ramirez) has finally begun to move on, finding love with his childhood friend Kate (Reinhart). But when the couple moves into the home Sean once shared with Violet, he starts receiving unsettling text messages from someone, or something, claiming to be his dead ex. In an age of constant connectivity— where every text, photo, and digital footprint lingers forever— do exes ever really let you go?

The reunion of Brice and Duplass is particularly exciting news for horror fans. The pair helped establish Creep as a standout independent horror franchise of the last decade, turning an intimate, deeply uncomfortable premise into a memorable exercise in psychological terror. Brice also directed the Netflix horror slasher There’s Someone Inside Your House, as well as The Overnight and Corporate Animals, while recently returning to the Creep universe with season 3 of The Creep Tapes.
Antosca's involvement adds another intriguing genre pedigree to the mix. In addition to creating the creepypasta adaptation series Channel Zero and the criminally underrated limited series Brand New Cherry Flavor, he wrote the supernatural horror film Antlers and Apple's recent Cape Fear adaptation. His latest high-profile screenplay, Verity, starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, became a major box-office success and reportedly earned more than $170 million worldwide.

Behind the scenes, the production brings together an experienced group of producers. Kelly McKee and Kenneth Browning will produce for Generator Entertainment, with Elizabeth Haggard and Dylan Tarason producing for SK Global, alongside Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat. Jeannine Tang, Chris Collins, Rasool Alizadeh, Gemma Levinson, and Jackson Stewart are executive producing. Emmy-nominated casting director Jessica Kelly (Euphoria) is also attached.
With Brice returning to the unnerving territory that made Creep a genre favorite, Antosca supplying the story, and a cast featuring some of the most exciting young names working across horror and mainstream film, Violet has plenty of potential to make some noise. The combination of digital-age paranoia, psychological horror, and a haunting premise about a dead lover who refuses to stay gone is an enticing one.
And with the Creep team back together, we're certainly ready to see what kind of monster they're cooking up this time. We at FANGORIA will be following this project closely. Not only to give you updates as they’re made available, but also because we really, really want to see this.
