Plenty of stars get their Big Break in horror movies, and the folks behind the comedy troupe Simple Town think it’s time for theirs. FANGORIA is excited to premiere an exclusive clip from their upcoming film ahead of its premiere at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival, showcasing just how much they’re willing to sacrifice for fame and fortune.
Directed by member Ian Faria from a script by Samuel Lanier, who also stars, Big Break also features Simple Town’s Will Niedmann, Felipe Di Poi, and Caroline Yost. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
The movie follows Caroline, Felipe, and Will as they visit their old comedy partner, Sam, who struck rich in Hollywood and left them behind. Staying at his isolated house in the woods, the trio has one goal: convince Sam to cast them in his next big movie. But when a dark secret slips out, old resentments turn to horror, and this washed-up comedy group learns what it really means to kill.
“Big Break is about a turning point in our lives, where the work you’ve put in as a group, the good faith you’ve built, begins to sour against scarce opportunity,” said the members of Simple Town. “The stakes are high – we’re in the age of millennial downward mobility. The industry is unforgiving, and we pinned our success on our friendship. But we also feel this is our strength. We have become Advanced at being friends. So we made a movie about this real, sweet, funny – and dire – friendship of ours.
“We wanted to give Big Break that Friday night slasher feel, because we all want movie theater movies back… The title might be tongue-in-cheek, but we really think that Big Break could be our big break.”
Big Break will have its world premiere at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival, which runs from July 16 to August 2 in Montreal.
