With James Cameron’s sci-fi epic Aliens turning forty this year, CREATORVC is doing something special to celebrate. The company behind documentaries like The Thing Expanded and In Search of Darkness is rereleasing their award-winning documentary Aliens Expanded with a new, two-disc anniversary edition.
The new extra-extended edition of the documentary includes the full version of director Ian Nathan’s documentary, plus an entire disc of bonus content that features a theatrical cut of Aliens Expanded, as well as an interview with Nathan and producer Robin Block answering fan questions about the making of the film. Also included in the new release are over fourteen hours of unseen and extended interviews with the cast and crew of Aliens, including Sigourney Weaver, James Cameron, Michael Biehn, and Gale Anne Hurd.
“As it celebrates its 40th anniversary, Aliens still stands as arguably the greatest sequel of all time,” says Nathan. “It is Cameron’s brilliant twist on the original – a film he revered – that effectively invented an entire franchise, and in my opinion his finest hour. With Aliens Expanded our primary mission was to do this incredible, enduring film justice.”
Aliens Expanded was originally released in 2024, as one of numerous in-depth documentaries released by CREATORVC. The company also recently announced a new installment in their ever-popular In Search of Darkness series, which takes audiences back to the beginning of the slasher craze to focus on films made in the 1970s, like Halloween, The Omen, and Carrie.
“Aliens is, without question, one of the most influential films I’ve ever seen, so being able to bring Aliens Expanded back for its 40th anniversary is genuinely special,” says Block. “It’s been an absolute pleasure putting this edition together and celebrating a film that means so much to so many of us.
