Shout TV! Is back with another episode of their brand-new Double Take series this week, and this time, it’s a party! The series that brings in horror stars like Catherine Corcoran to curate themed double features is celebrating the birth of Roger Corman, the cult filmmaker behind titles like Little Shop of Horrors and A Bucket of Blood. To do so, they’re bringing in VFX legend Alec Gillis to screen two of the director’s sci-fi films from the early 1980s.

This week, Gillis celebrates what would’ve been Corman’s ninety-ninth birthday with a double feature of two of his films: Battle Beyond The Stars and Galaxy of Terror, both of which Gillis himself worked on. He’ll be sharing exclusive intros to the films, as well as his experiences working with Corman on both films. In addition, Shout Factory will be running a sale on Corman’s films from April 5-11 to accompany the episode.

When we talked to Gillis about his own work, which you can view in the video below, he says that “big things” are the most difficult to work with, like the brain bug from Starship Troopers or the queen alien from Alien vs. Predator, though small things can pose their own issues too.

With a wealth of experiences on numerous franchises behind him, Gillis is a legend on his own, but he also referenced plenty of names that came before him as inspiration, including the team behind John Carpenter’s The Thing and Fire in the Sky, as well as Ridley Scott’s Alien, which he credits with knocking him out of a “1950s design sensibility” in terms of his own work.

Double Take is available on Shout! TV, as well as the Shout! TV app on Roku, Android, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV. Gillis’ episode premieres on April 5.
