A24's Opus, the feature debut from writer/director Mark Anthony Green, gets a first trailer today ahead of its March 14 release date and Sundance premiere.
Starring Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Preyโs Amber Midthunder, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Stephanie Suganami, Young Mazino, and Tony Hale, Opus has been described as โflashy pop horrorโ about a โtense, psychological game of cat and mouseโ, and follows:
A young writer (Edebiri) is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star (Malkovich) who mysteriously disappeared thirty years ago. Surrounded by the star's cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan.
Edebiri plays the โmeek yet hungry journalist Ariel โ her unique charm radiating alongside a distinct final-girl prescienceโ, while Malkovich is โeffervescent and hypnotic as Moretti, a deified global phenomenon making a dramatically malevolent reintroduction.โ
If today's new trailer is anything to go by, Opus could well end up being one of 2025's very best horrors, looking original, funny and creepy in equal measure.
Promisingly, the musical horror is Rated R for “violent content including a grisly image, language, sexual material and brief graphic nudity.” Consider us very intrigued by everything but mostly as to what that “grisly image” could be.
