John Krasinski is dipping his toe back into horror after several years helming family friendly films and hard-hitting actioners. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the Quiet Place star is set to star in Silent River, a new Prime Video thriller series about a town plagued by a serial killer.
The series, which follows โthe cracks that emerge in a small town when itโs discovered a serial killer lives among its residents,โ will also feature Perry Mason lead Matthew Rhys, with both stars playing โtwo men whose lives are more connected than they realize.โ No other details about the series, which reunites Krasinski and Rhys after a brief appearance together in the childrenโs film IF, have been released as of yet.
Krasinski previously starred in all four seasons of Prime Videoโs Jack Ryan series, based on the character and book series created by Tom Clancy. Thereโs currently a follow-up film for the action franchise in the works at Amazon MGM, and concurrently with the Silent River news โ which comes from Jack Ryan writer Aaron Rabin โ Krasinski also re-upped his first-look deal with the studio. This follows a long stint with one of the most popular horror franchises in recent history, starring in the first two films in The Quiet Place franchise (the first of which he also directed), as well as serving as producer on this yearโs A Quiet Place: Day One, starring Joseph Quinn and Lupita Nyongโo.
โWe are thrilled to continue our work with John Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, and Sunday Night on this gripping series, which delves into the mysteries and secrets of small-town America,โ Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM, told THR. โWith John and Matthew Rhys attached to star in this wonderful story from Aaron Rabin, our global customers will be on the edge of their seats throughout this thought-provoking, psychological thriller.โ
Krasinski will also hop into the directorโs chair for the series, alongside executive producer Adam Bernstein, whoโs currently directing the Jack Ryan movie. Both stars, alongside creator Rabin, will also executive produce the series. No release date has been announced.
