Are We About To Get Another CUJO With TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Director’s New Movie?

ZEUS will be helmed by David Blue Garcia.
Cujo, zeus

Weโ€™ve got another killer animal on our hands, folks. Yes, thatโ€™s right, yet another movie about a deadly dog is in the works, with Mucho Mas Media tapping David Blue Garcia โ€” director of the Netflix Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot โ€” to helm Zeus, a new entry into the โ€œcanon of terrifying predators.โ€

Blue Garcia directs from a script by Tate Hanyok and Shane McKenzie, about โ€œa group of friends in their early 20s being terrorized by a Cane Corso during a lakeside holiday celebration.โ€ Why the overt specificity about the breed, we donโ€™t know, but it certainly seems to be following in the steps of Stephen Kingโ€™s Cujo, albeit with a bigger location than the inside of a car. No cast has been announced, but hey, at least we know the titular dog will be appropriately menacing!

“The horror genre continues to thrive, ushering in a new era of exciting films,โ€ said producer Javier Chapa in a statement. โ€œWe couldnโ€™t imagine a better filmmaker than David Blue Garcia to bring Zeus to lifeโ€”a character destined to become an iconic figure in the world of horror.โ€

Currently being โ€œfast-tracked for production,โ€ the film is produced by Chapa, with executive producers Phillip Braun, Robert Muรฑoz, Morgan Cano-Long, Simon Wise, Vincent Cordero, Bruce Barshop,  Sherrese Clarke Soares, and Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier for Highland Film Group.

โ€œWith the undeniable talent of genre aficionado David Blue Garcia at the helm, we cannot wait to unleash Zeus and introduce the carnivorous canine to horror fans around the world,โ€ said Fraser. โ€œItโ€™s great to be teaming up again with Mucho Masโ€™ Javier Chapa and Phillip Braun following the success of our maiden creature collaboration, The Black Demon,โ€ added Perrier.

Varietyโ€™s report on the film also notes that Blue Garcia is โ€œalso attached to direct a horror feature for Ridley Scottโ€™s Scott Free Productions,โ€ but no details on that project were provided. His take on Texas Chainsaw Massacre, based on the original Tobe Hooper film, left room open for a follow-up, but so far, nothing has materialized. Could Zeus be the firestarter for more Leatherface? Only time will tell.

No release date for Zeus has been announced.
