Before Miami's Popcorn Frights Film Festival hits Fort Lauderdaleโs Savor Cinema from August 8-18, we've got an exclusive reveal of the hugely exciting third wave of the massive EIGHTY THREE (!!) short films proudly playing at the fest.
This third wave follows the first and second wave that, together, include tributes to horror legends, iconic anniversary screenings and aย 22 World Premieres among its record-setting 131 premiere lineup.
The in-person portion of Popcorn Frightsโ hybrid festival is free and open to the public thanks to support from Nightmare Weekend Miami, as โa gift back to the community for ten years of their dedicated support and moviegoing love.โ

Highlights in the short film program feature 11 world premieres from returning Popcorn Frights alumni, including Erik Bloomquistโs CRUEL BEANS, Steven Schlossโ KATIEโS SKIN, Jack Dignanโs PUZZLE BOX: THE GLITCH, and Will Leeโs HER HOUSE, whose film RINGWORMS won the Audience Award for Best Short Film at the 2022 Popcorn Frights Film Festival; as well as new midnighter scaremongers such as Lorenzo Manettiโs ESCAPE, Steven Belcherโs ROTTEN, and Joshua David Matthewsโ SKETCH.
Many other Popcorn Frights alumni are represented in a blitz of mind-shattering shorts this year, including Russell Goldmanโs BURN OUT; Case Avronโs BY THE WINDOW; Luke Barnett & Tanner Thomasonโs THE CROSSING OVER EXPRESS; Valery Garciaโs DESCENSION; David Graceโs HEVEL, Michael Gabrieleโs ROOM TONE; Kelsey Bolligโs INKED, whose film KICKSTART MY HEART won the Jury Prize for Best Short Film at the 2022 Popcorn Frights Film Festival; and for the sixth time, Chris McInroy is back at Popcorn Frights with his outrageous horror romp WE JOINED A CULT.
Continuing Popcorn Frightsโ commitment to celebrating its homegrown talent, the Festival proudly presents its โHomegrown: 100% Pure Fresh Squeezed Florida Horrorโ program that is dedicated to renewing and reinvigorating the audience's engagement with Floridaโs local filmmakers and homegrown talent. Films featured in the โHomegrownโ program include the world premiere of Christopher Pintoโs DEAR DIARY 1944; as well as Gabriel Lopezโs BEST KEPT SHUT; Ryan McCueโs DRAWN INTO DARKNESS; Jack McClellanโs EDโS AUTO; Lucca Vieiraโs I KNOW YOU; Queenie Zhangโs IT CAME FROM WITHIN; Christopher Krider & Tyler Councilโs MILFORD LUSTERโS GUIDE TO FISHERMEN SAFETY; Almendra Emilia Kovaฤ Akelโs ROT; Frank Volkโs THIS EDIBLE AINโT SHIT; and returning to Popcorn Frights for a fifth time are Jon Rhoads & Michael Marrero with their new nightmare PARTY TIME.
Popcorn Frights also expanded its popular Animation Domination shorts block into a worldwide showcase, which this year is headlined by the world premiere of Olivia Loccisanoโs POCKET PRINCESS (Canada), as well as Armin Assadipourโs PRENDS CHAIR (France) and Noah Sterlingโs TINKERHELL.
