America’s got plenty of strange urban legends, and director Britt Bankhead is reimagining one of the country’s most famous ones in his latest film. The Town That Takes hits digital this week, and you can watch the trailer for the supernatural thriller below.
The Town That Takes is directed by Bankhead, who also stars and co-wrote the script with Jonathan Blaze. The film also stars Miles Mussenden, Grace Patterson, Mike Markoff, and Mico Tirozzi, with the film serving as Bankhead’s directorial debut. Its synopsis is as follows:

Haunted by his past, Army veteran Dean Richardson travels to North Carolina following the sudden death of his ex-wife, hoping to rebuild his fractured relationship with his twelve-year-old son, Wyatt. Their journey takes a terrifying turn when they stop in a remote backwoods town plagued by a series of gruesome and unexplained murders.
As local detectives investigate ritualistic killings and disturbing reports of seemingly inhuman creatures, Dean finds himself at the center of a growing nightmare. When Wyatt mysteriously disappears, Dean must form an uneasy alliance with veteran Detective Douglas O’Shea to uncover the horrifying truth behind an ancient legend known only as Croatoan. With something sinister lurking in the surrounding forests and the town descending into chaos, Dean must confront an evil beyond comprehension before his son is lost forever.
The Town That Takes is executive produced by both Bankhead and Patterson, with Gabriella Hainline serving as co-producer. Co-writer Blaze also serves as cinematographer and editor for the film, with production design by Mo Moline.
The Town That Takes premieres on digital on November 7.
