WNUF Halloween Special director Chris LaMartina is back to horror up another holiday with Spirit Tasting, an upcoming New Year’s Eve-themed film from Terror Vision Original Productions.
Co-written by FANGORIA Chainsaw Award writer and director Michael Varrati (There's a Zombie Outside), Spirit Tasting is described as a “post-punk riff on The Monkey’s Paw“, and follows three former punks as they toast their late bandmate at a distillery on New Year’s Eve:
When a strange sommelier invites them to a top-shelf tasting, they discover there’s only one catch: Every bottle requires a ‘wish.’ But as each of their desires twist into doom, these old friends discover that every pour at the Red Bat Distillery comes at a deadly price.
Sean Doherty, Melissa LaMartina and Trevor Wilhelms star as the aforementioned three punks, with Matt Lake, Matt Baughman, Cate Paris and Tatiana Nya Ford also leading the cast.
Spirit Tasting also features cameos from genre faves like Grady Hendrix, Clay McLeod Chapman, Peaches Christ and Henry Zebrowski, and according to Variety, was shot in four days for $40,000 in order to celebrate LaMartina’s 40th birthday, in true B-movie fashion.
Varrati, Chris LaMartina, Melissa LaMartina and Ted Geoghegan produce the pic, with Ryan Graveface of Graveface Records executive producing.
Variety also confirms that Spirit Tasting, along with LaMartina and select cast members, will hit the road on a holiday roadshow across the country with to-be-announced dates from November to early January.
For those who can't make it or those outside of the U.S., never fear: a Blu-ray release will follow the roadshow. Stay tuned.
