After Widow’s Bay swept this year’s Emmys, one of its stars is diving even further into horror with their newest movie. Variety reports that Bridge Independent has picked up rights for Henry’s Ebb, a new psychological horror film starring Kingston Rumi Southwick, who played mayor Tom Loftis’s son Evan in the hit Apple TV series.
Henry’s Ebb is written and directed by Thomas Mendolia as his feature debut, and also stars Banks Repeta, Ashley Shelton, Will Holland, Rebecca Koon, and Austin Willard. Per Variety, the film’s synopsis is as follows:
The film follows Henry, a boy who flees his troubled home in search of the father he barely remembers, accompanied by Ebb, the imaginary friend Henry created to help him survive a tumultuous childhood. But as their journey leads them through the backroads of the American South, Ebb’s protection becomes increasingly controlling, forcing Henry to question the companion he has always trusted.
Shot in Elkin, North Carolina — Mendolia’s hometown — Henry’s Ebb will have its world premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. The film is produced by Lucas Ford and Joey LePage, with co-producers Tony Tehle and Irina Slepneva, and it will have its US premiere at the Cucalorus Film Festival in North Carolina, bringing the film home for Mendolia and his cast before it gets a wide release.
“Elkin exists in my mind as both magical and painful, and that duality felt essential to the story,” the director said to Variety. “I wrote it around real locations from my memory, and knew that shooting here was crucial. Henry moves through a world that is full of wonder, but also shaped by the complicated lives of the adults around him. Setting the film there allowed those two feelings to coexist in the same space.”
No release date has been set for Henry’s Ebb. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
