While festival season is already in full swing, New York City is waiting until Christmastime to scare things up, and the wait will be worth it. FANGORIA is excited to reveal that Drag, the home-invasion horror starring John Stamos and Lizzy Caplan, is making its East Coast premiere as the festival’s opening-night film.
Directed by Greg Yagolnitzer and Raviv Ullman — the latter of whom you might recognize from Disney Channel in the 2000s — Drag also stars Lucy DeVito and Christine Ko. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
Drag follows two estranged sisters who attempt to rob a secluded home in rural upstate New York. What begins as a simple burglary spirals into a nightmarish ordeal after one sister throws out her back and becomes immobilized on the second floor. As tensions rise and panic sets in, the sisters are forced into a painful and increasingly absurd fight for survival before the homeowner returns.

Set to premiere in theaters on January 29, the film is produced by Jersey Films 2nd Avenue, the production company owned by star Lucy DeVito, along with her brother Jake and father Danny DeVito. Yagolnitzer and Ullman will also appear in person at the festival, sitting in for a Q&A following the screening.
Drag is joined by plenty of other excellent horror films at this year’s festival, including the world premiere of Julie and the US premiere of Boxcutter, as well as films like Godmother, The Barn Part III, and Eat. The festival is also offering a virtual program this year, available the day after each live screening, with a lineup to be announced soon.
The New York City Horror Film Festival takes place at the Village East from December 3-6. For more information, visit their website.
